Kirby Smart contradicts "season-ending injury” for star Georgia transfer

Kirby Smart isn't convinced a stary Bulldog is out for the season.

G-Day has come and gone which means the end of spring ball for Georgia. That is a sad thing for everyone in Athens because now they have to wait months for fall camp and the regular season to begin.

End of spring ball can be a good thing in a way because it decreases the chances of Georgia suffering more injuries. And after the countless injuries that emerged over the past week, that is a welcomed sight.

Speaking of injuries, transfer linebacker Amaris Williams suffered the worst of them all when he tore his ACL on Tuesday. This injury was initially reported as season-ending, but when Kirby Smart spoke about his injury after G-Day he didn't rule out him coming back by the end of the season.

“I don’t know how long it is. You never know with an ACL,” Smart said via dawgnation.com. “You don’t want to put a time table on it and he doesn’t want to put a time table on it.”

Kirby Smart doesn't rule out an early return for Amaris Williams

Is it actually possible for Williams to make it back on the field by the end of the season? Technically yes, but it is not likely. But to hear Smart have some hope that he could is definitely reassuring.

Williams would love nothing more than to get back on the field by the end of the season. He is a transfer from Auburn who has only been in Athens for a couple months, so having to wait until 2027 to play his first game as a Bulldog just isn't right. But he made a promise that he would be back at some point and that he will be better than ever, so no one should doubt how good he will be when he does see the field again.

Williams didn't promise that he will be back for this season though, but if it were up to him he would do anything to ensure that he does see the field this year. So while it may seem unlikely, Smart thinks it is possible, so don't count him out just yet.
