A lot of different variables matter in a players recruitment. Some are more difficult for Kirby Smart to recruit against than others, and the one variable he has struggled with the most is recruits who want to play close to home.
Proximity to a recruits home is something every coach in college football history has struggled to recruit against. Those issues however get taken to another level when that recruit is a massive fan of the school they live close by.
Unfortunately for Smart, Ai'King Hall, who is one of their top targets at corner, is an Alabama superfan.
4⭐️CB Ai’King Hall grew up loving Alabama football. Georgia has emerged as a school of interest. He will be on campus this spring and has set his fandom aside to fully take in the recruiting process. #GoDawgs

Kirby Smart may be fighting an uphill battle with a massive Alabama fan
Hall is one of the top corners in the 2027 recruiting class. He is the No. 69 overall player in the country as well as the No. 9 corner in his class. He also is the top ranked player from Alabama, and that is the biggest hurdle Smart and Georgia have to overcome.
The above post points out that Hall grew up as a massive Alabama fan. He likely dreamed of playing for Nick Saban his entire life as he watched the Crimson Tide take over the college football world. Sure Saban is gone now, but his love for Alabama hasn't faded, and that will be very difficult for Georgia to overcome.
Hall however did point out that he is going to attempt to put his fandom to the side throughout his recruitment. That is why he is giving Georgia a chance by making a visit to Athens later this spring. However, it is hard to imagine that he will fully put his fandom to the side, so this might be a losing battle that Smart and his staff are fighting.
Smart has won some shocking recruitments during his time at Georgia, so anything is possible. But of all the recruitments to count on winning, Hall unfortunately should be at the bottom of that list for now.
