Kirby Smart is known for his over-the-top reactions whenever Georgia gets a big win. Saturday’s 42-7 win at No. 10 Ole Miss, who was the team that knocked them out of the playoff last year, certainly qualifies as a big win, but you wouldn’t know that based on Smart’s reaction after the game.
Smart probably celebrated like crazy with his team behind closed doors, but in front of the media he was already moving past this win and onto the big games that lie ahead.
“On to the next one now. They just get bigger from here.”

Georgia is playing for much more than a regular season win
Georgia's goals are far greater than any one regular season win. Sure they need to win their games during the season to accomplish their goals, but what matters at Georgia is winning championships. Regular season wins don't get much greater than their victory at Ole Miss on Saturday, but Georgia still hasn't won anything of significance yet.
If Georgia doesn't handle their business the rest of this season then this win won't matter. Their win over Ole Miss, and every other win this season, wouldn't matter anymore if Georgia lost their next two games and failed to make the SEC Championship game or College Football Playoff.
Smart knows how important this victory was, but he also knows that every regular season win counts the same. Each game is just as important as the last if Georgia is going to win a championship, and Smart actually thinks the next games are even bigger than the Ole Miss game.
So instead of celebrating like crazy Smart is already turning his attention to the three teams left on their schedule.
Kirby Smart learned from Georgia’s loss to Auburn
Another reason Smart probably reacted this way is because he learned his lesson from earlier this season. Three weeks ago Georgia lost at home to an Auburn team that has turned out to be pretty bad. If Georgia can lose that game then they can lose to anyone, and Smart knows that more than anyone else.
Up next for Georgia is a solid Missouri team. They just lost to Texas on Saturday at home, but their 6-3 record shows they are still an above average team. They will not be an easy win and Smart knows he can’t let the Ole Miss win get to anyone’s head because they could lose to Missouri just like they lost to Auburn earlier this season.
Georgia is playing for far more than one regular season win, even a win as big as beating Ole Miss. The Bulldogs still have loads of work to do this season, and if they want to accomplish all of their goals they need to move past this Ole Miss win as soon as possible.
Smart appears to be doing that already, and hopefully everyone else in the football building will follow his lead.
