Georgia got their SEC season underway with a bang after taking down Arkansas on the road 45-17 on Saturday. These teams never belonged on the same field as Georgia jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as they dominated the Razorbacks all game long.
There are a few areas where Georgia needs to improve before their schedule gets more difficult, but overall Georgia passed their third test of the season with flying colors. There were a few things unfolding off the field that dominated the headlines in Arkansas though with the most important from Georgia's perspective being that Kirby Smart got the last laugh after a ridiculous comment Arkansas' new head coach made last year.
Georgia made Ryan Silverfield regret ever speaking bad on their name
Ryan Silverfield is in his first year as the Arkansas head coach. Before coming to Arkansas he was at Memphis where out of nowhere slammed Georgia for the amount of arrests in the program.
Kirby Smart refused to talk about his previous comments leading up to this game as it was clear he was going to let Georgia's play on the field do the talking. The message sent by Georgia on Saturday was loud and clear as they dominated from the opening kickoff and left no doubt how overmatched Arkansas was.
Georgia now moves to 3-0 this season with everything still to play for in front of them. Silverfield and Arkansas move to 1-2 and have to deal with the fact that they may be the worst team in the SEC this season. It gets worse than that for them though because now they have to deal with vast amounts of unrest in their fan base.
Arkansas boycott overshadows Georgia's dominant victory
Arkansas attempted to "Stripe the Stadium" on Saturday, but instead their fans boycotted the game and chose to not show up at all. Razorback fans talked about doing this all week to make a point about how upset they are with their athletic department, but it's one thing to say they're going to boycott a game and it's another thing to actually do it, and Arkansas fans actually did it.
Arkansas wasn't expected to compete with the best of the best in the SEC this season, but this was supposed to be a year of growth to put them in position to improve over the next few years. Their fans however are making that difficult to accomplish because they are extremely unhappy with the product on the field and the fact that they spend the least amount of NIL money in the conference.
Silverfield got his laughs in while he was still at Memphis, but now he's coaching with the big dogs. Coaches will either sink or swim when they get their first Power Four job, and after just three games Silverfield is clearly drowning.
It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season unfolds for Arkansas. They may only win one more game the rest of this season (next week against Tulsa), but that is hardly the most worrisome thing happening in their program right now.
