Georgia and Arkansas may be the furthest thing from a traditional rivalry, but on Saturday there is some bad blood that needs to be settled.
New Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield was previously at Memphis where he made some interesting comments about the Georgia football program. Who knows why the coach at Memphis even needs to talk about Georgia, but he randomly slammed Georgia for the amount of arrests that have occurred in the program over the last few years.
At the time Silverfield had no clue he'd eventually become he head coach at Arkansas, but to make matters worse for him his first SEC game as their head coach is against Kirby Smart and Georgia this Saturday.
He luckily won't have to deal with the Georgia fans at Sanford Stadium, but he will still have to pay for what he said during this game this weekend. Kirby Smart was asked about his previous comments on Monday and he refused to take the bait the question posed, but it seems like he is waiting to get his revenge when the teams take the field on Saturday.
"That's much ado about nothing. He made a choice to talk about what he wanted to talk about," Smart said via 247sports.com. "He apologized about it. I think he was talking about generalities. All coaches, we show things other schools do to make mistakes to try to educate our team. He's trying to educate his team and said what he said, but that's over and done with for me."
Kirby Smart will let Georgia's play do the talking
Kirby Smart has never been the type of coach to call other programs out. If he is asked a question about another team he will answer it, but rarely will he say anything negative about another school or program.
Silverfield is a bit different because he took a shot at Georgia for no reason at all. His comments also had nothing to do with actual football either, so it never made much sense for him to be talking about Georgia in the first place.
Smart could've shamed him on Monday for what he said. He could've let his words fly too and brag about how much more success he has as a coach and how much better Georgia is, but he didn't do that. He instead took the high road and will let Georgia settle it on the field on Saturday.
Georgia is currently favored by more than three touchdowns, so this game could get ugly. Smart typically isn't a coach who likes to run the score up, but if there was ever a game to do it this is the one.
Georgia can beat Arkansas in their sleep, but this game is personal this year. Unfortunately for the Razorbacks they have Georgia's full and undivided attention because of something their coach said before they even hired him, but regardless of the circumstances Smart will make them pay for what they said this weekend.
