Kirby Smart was asked about a lot of different topics after their win over Florida on Saturday, but one thing that came up was their loss to Auburn two weeks ago. Kirby Smart was asked about how important it was for them to win this game after losing to Auburn the last time they took the field, and Smart admitted that it was good to get their season back on track.
He however doesn't think the Florida game is any more important than the rest of their games this season. In fact, Smart gave off the impression that he isn't worried about the Auburn loss at all anymore.
"Yeah, it was important. It's just as important as it's going to be next week." Kirby Smart said via 247sports.com. "So it's no more important than it was for us to do against Auburn when we didn't. They're all important. That's what we've learned."
Georgia's loss to Auburn doesn't matter much anymore
There's only one way that Georgia's loss to Auburn will impact their season and that is if they lose another game. As it stands today the Bulldogs have complete control of making it to the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff, so as long as they win out they will have nothing to worry about.
The Florida game figured to be the second most difficult game left on Georgia's schedule, so now that they passed that test they have far less to worry about. With each game they win the less their loss to Auburn ends up mattering, even if the Tigers keep losing like they have been the past two weeks.
Georgia's loss will always sting from a rivalry standpoint, but when it comes to their goals this season it doesn't matter that much anymore.
A statement win over Ole Miss would end all doubt surrounding Georgia after loss to Auburn
Georgia has four games left on their schedule, but their next matchup against Ole Miss is the most likely game they would lose. Georgia plays Missouri in two weeks, but that game being in Athens will help a lot. The Bulldogs final two games this year against South Carolina and Georgia Tech feel like easy wins too, so Ole Miss is the only big challenge left for them this season.
If Georgia can get past Ole Miss then the chances of them missing the SEC Championship game and playoff would be extremely low. If that's the case then their loss to Auburn two weeks ago would prove to be irrelevant when it comes to them accomplishing their goals this year.
Georgia still has to take things one game at a time While there is a potential for their loss to Auburn to end up biting them in the butt if they lose another game, at this point that defeat isn't impacting them much at all right now.
