Georgia football has officially finished their regular season at 10-2 after beating Georgia Tech on Friday night. This record was good enough for the AP Poll to move Georgia back into their top five in the poll's updated ranking from Sunday.

And while is is nice to be recognized by the AP Poll, the only ranking that matters now is the College Football Playoff rankings. The updated CFP rankings will be released on Tuesday, so we will see where Georgia stands then, but the consensus is that Georgia has done enough this season to clinch their spot in the 12-team playoff.

On Sunday, Kirby Smart was asked if he agrees with that statement as well, and his response is not surprising at all.

"Tough question, because it boils down to who the best teams are," Smart shared via 247sports.com. "And I don't, you know, I have repeatedly said, I don't know the objective of the committee... So I don't think you can measure things just based on how many losses you have, because the quality of the schedule you play has to mean something."

Kirby Smart doesn't know what the CFP committee will do

Smart made it pretty clear that he thinks Georgia has done enough to be considered one of the 12 best teams. Even though he didn't come right out and say that, this quote, as well as what he has said in the past, shows that he thinks Georgia's 10-2 record is very impressive considering the extremely tough schedule they have faced this year.

But at the same time, Smart knows how inconsistent the committee has been with their rankings this season. So there is no guarantee that Georgia will make the CFP if they lose to Texas, even though experts throughout the country think Georgia is safe.

So the best thing Georgia can do now is beat Texas in the SEC Championship game. If they do that, then it will be impossible for Georgia to be left out of the playoff this season, and they will also get about a month off before they have to play again. That extra rest may be more important than the SEC Championship right now, so beating Texas is a must if Georgia wants to be a serious threat to win a National Championship this season.
