Kaiden Prothro is one of Georgia's top true freshman this season. At one time he was a five-star tight end in high school, but he still ended as a top 50 recruit and one of the best tight ends in the country.
Upon his arrival to Georgia it immediately became clear that he is a matchup nightmare. His size and athletic ability allows him to line up all across the field to take advantage of whatever scheme the defense is in.
Kirby Smart put that on display during G-Day as Prothro lined up in the slot on almost every snap he took. That was extremely exciting for fans to see, but Smart may have made a critical mistake by showing how they plan to use him in the fall a little too much.
Of Kaiden Prothro’s 45 snaps in the G-Day game, 42 came in the slot. Zero came as a tight end attached to the line of scrimmage. All 8 of Prothro’s targets came in the slot.

At 6-6 230 pounds, Georgia has Power Slot on its roster that it clearly wants to use this fall. https://t.co/i5QbQzfxRA pic.twitter.com/ymAp3FVO7Y
Kirby Smart's G-Day error could hurt Kaiden Prothro in the fall
Georgia was one of just three SEC teams to televise their spring game this year. Other schools chose to not do so because they want to limit the amount of information they give future opponents ahead of the regular season.
Smart however wasn't too worried about that, but maybe he should've been.
Prothro is listed as a tight end on Georgia's depth chart, but it's clear that is not how they plan on using him. He lined up in the slot in 42 of his 45 snaps on G-Day and never even lined up as a tight end on the line of scrimmage. That right there tells Georgia's opponents everything they need to know about how Smart plans on using Prothro this season.
Georgia's SEC opponents likely would've learned this about Prothro during Georgia's first few regular season games, so maybe this isn't that big of a deal. But this would've been nice information to keep close to the chest for a bit longer because Prothro being an unknown name heading into the season isn't a bad thing.
