Georgia's No. 1 commit right now is five-star quarterback Jayden Wade. He is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2028 recruiting class, so it can't be understated how big his addition is to UGA's recruiting class.
Wade decided to commit to Georgia very early in his recruiting process, so much so that it came as a big surprise when he chose to do so. But Wade explained what led him to commit to Georgia so early, and it turns out that it was just another masterclass recruiting effort from Kirby Smart.
"When I really noticed they started recruiting me is when they offered me on Christmas, my eighth grade year," Wade said via 247sports.com. "It was before anybody even seen anything in me, they seen the potential in me early, and then they pulled the trigger and wanted to take a chance, so I think that's a big, big key factor that pointed out for me, and I just stayed loyal with them ever since, and we just kept getting a better bond and kept communicating more, and I went up there, and I loved it. I feel like it's home."
Kirby Smart flexed his recruiting muscles again
Wade is only a sophomore, so in theory his recruitment hasn't been going for very long. But that isn't the case at all.
Wade explained that Smart and Georgia have been recruiting him since eighth grade which is almost three years ago now. And this relationship began when no other school was recruiting him yet, so this head start might be exactly what led Wade to commit to Georgia already.
Now the hope is that Georgia will be able to hang on for the next two years until Wade can sign with UGA. There are a few teams still lurking attempting to flip him and that will likely only increase with time, but for now Georgia is in prime position to sign the No. 1 quarterback in the country.
