The LA Rams only have three days to decide if Stetson Bennett will make their final 53-man roster. Every NFL team has until 6:00 pm EST on Sunday, Aug. 30 to name their final roster, and one of the biggest decisions the Rams have to make is what to do with Bennett.
Matthew Stafford is their starting quarterback for the upcoming season. Rookie quarterback Ty Simpson, who was just drafted by the Rams in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, will also make the final roster as well. Bennett however could be viewed as a wildcard considering most NFL teams only carry two quarterbacks on their final roster.
All signs however are pointing to the Rams adding Bennett to their final roster.

Throughout training camp and the preseason the Rams have shown that Stetson Bennett will more than likely make their final 53-man roster. Bennett not only started the Rams' first two preseason games this season, but he has also taken reps with the Rams' starters in practice when Stafford is resting.
Bennett has also arguably outplayed Ty Simpson during the preseason games as well, so if he will make the team it makes sense that Bennett will as well.
LA Rams head coach Sean McVay has even said that he believes the Rams will keep all three quarterbacks on their final roster. McVay however has changed his mind a couple times when it comes to Bennett during the preseason, most notably with the amount he ended up playing in their first two games, so until the Rams officially put Bennett on their final roster anything is possible.
It however is nearly a done deal that Bennett will make their final roster, and the fact that he didn't play in the Rams' final preseason game to preserve his health may indicate he will be the Rams' backup quarterback this year. Once Bennett makes the Rams' roster though he has other things to worry about because his long-term future after this year is completely unknown.
Stetson Bennett's long-term future is still unknown regardless of what the Rams do
This year is the final season on Bennett's contract with the Rams. The Rams could sign him to a new contract, but NFL analysts believe they will let him walk in favor of Simpson regardless of how this upcoming season unfolds.
Bennett however has put himself in position to be signed by another NFL team if the Rams aren't interested in signing him next year. He has shined in the preseason for the second year in a row this year, and that's all it might take for a team to take a chance on him. Bennett could also earn a few opportunities to play during the regular season if he wins the backup job over Simpson as well.
The Rams could also choose to trade him at some point this season as well.
There is so much unknown when it comes to Bennett's future, but all he can do is focus on the present. All he can do is compete every day and win the backup quarterback job in LA for this season, and if he does that then he will give himself the best chance to sign a new contract with the Rams or a different NFL team next offseason.
