Georgia basketball fans have had a lot to cheer for recently. Typically that isn’t the case, but after making the NCAA Tournament two years in a row things are beginning to look up.

The excitement surrounding the program was taken to a whole new level this past week though when a $10 million donation was made strictly to help the basketball program.

It isn’t too often that Georgia gives their basketball fans a lot to cheer for, but that appears to be a thing of the past now. Surely it can’t get any better, right?

Matt Chernoff with 680 The Fan doesn’t think so because he believes former Georgia superstar Anthony Edwards could be making a return to the Peach State.

Anthony Edwards was predicted to make a return to Georgia

Edwards was drafted with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. That came with a lot of expectations, and so far he has lived up to them all. Most notably are his four All Star appearances, two All-NBA teams and an Olympic gold medal.

Georgia fans have had to cheer from afar throughout his career so far, but Chernoff believes that could change soon.

Edwards still has three years left in his current contract with the Timberwolves, but Chernoff reported that he has heard from sources that he could be wanting out of Minnesota. And the only way for him to get out of Minnesota right now is if he demands a trade.

It's no secret how much Edwards lovers Georgia. He is originally from Atlanta and that is a big reason why he chose to play college ball at Georgia, so if he does demand a trade the Atlanta Hawks could be the team he wants to play for the most.

Who knows how much control he will have to make that specific trade happen though, but there's a good chance he will end up at Atlanta at some point in his career. Maybe it would be soon thanks to a trade, but after three more years he will be an unrestricted free agent and could then choose where he wants to play next.

Georgia basketball fans have been relatively spoiled recently, and with this new donation the basketball program could reach even greater heights in the years to come. But throwing in an Edwards return to Georgia would arguably make it one of the most exciting times to be a Georgia basketball fan over the last few decades.
