It's been about two months now since former Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck made the decision to transfer to Miami (FL). And ever since Beck has made it to Miami, he can't stop staying out of the news.
First he had a few cars stolen (which isn't his fault) and then this past week Beck was involved in more off the field drama with his girlfriend. So this is now multiple times he has been in the news for something that is unrelated to football since arriving at Miami.
The last thing any coach wants is for any player, let alone their star quarterback, to be in the news for non-football related reasons this often. This not only creates a distraction for him, but for the entire team that could hurt the program's development throughout the offseason.
After this most recent drama off the field, local Georgia radio host Barrett Sallee offered an interesting perspective on Beck leaving Georgia for Miami.
"Kirby Smart letting Carson Beck walk might be the most important coaching move of the season."

Beck leaving might have been for the best
To be fair, no one is 100% sure that Kirby Smart let Beck walk. In fact, there were some reports that Georgia tried to keep Beck in town after he entered the transfer portal. But he obviously chose Mimai, which may not be the worst decision for the Bulldogs.
This off the field drama Beck has been involved in is something no program needs, so it is a huge sigh of relief that Georgia isn't involved. In fact, the Bulldogs haven't had any off the field drama all offseason, which is always a nice thing to see.
On top of these incidents off the field, Beck wasn't as strong on the field this past season as he was in 2023. This regression is scary and would have been a major concern heading into the 2025 season, so Georgia having to move on to a new QB might be for the best.
It will be interesting to see how the upcoming season plays out for both Georgia and Miami, but if we know anything about Beck, he will continue to make headlines down in Miami whether it is good for the Hurricanes or a distraction.
