Chace Calicut is a four-star defensive back who was once a key member of Georgia's 2026 recruiting class. He committed to Georgia last June and appeared to be on his way to beginning his career in Athens this year, but that unfortunately never occurred due to some off the field problems.

Calicut is no longer with the Georgia program, but he has found his new home where he will play football this season. He won't be far from Athens either as he has enrolled to play football this fall at Georgia Southern.

Chace Calicut stays in the Peach State, just not with Georgia

Calicut was one of the most fun commits that Georgia had in their 2026 recruiting class. Not only is he a top 300 player, but he was loud and proud about his love for Georgia after he committed last June.

Calicut is from Texas and he had the Longhorns as one of his original finalists. But after choosing Georgia over them he hilariously trolled Texas by saying the "best in Texas leave Texas."

That's a really strong message to send to your in-state school, but it's hard to deny that after Georgia's perfect 3-0 record against the Longhorns since they joined the SEC.

Calicut unfortunately won't be playing football at Georgia this year though, but that doesn't mean a reuinion won't occur at some point in the future.

Chace Calicut could be a potential option for Georgia down the road

Calicut is too talented of a player to play at a program like Georgia Southern. Sure that is where he’s ended up for this year, but it feels like there is a zero percent chance he plays their his entire career.

All it will take is one good season (maybe two) and he will most likely be in the Transfer Portal. A lot of schools will probably want to take a chance on him at that point, but Georgia could have an inside edge.

It isn’t clear why he isn’t with Georgia anymore. Maybe Calicut was the one who wanted to go elsewhere or maybe Georgia wanted to move on from him because of his problems off the field, but whatever happened doesn’t mean a reunion can’t happen in the future.

It will be interesting to see how his career plays out, but he is someone that Georgia fans should have tabs on because he could be playing in Athens at some point in the future.
