The Rams decision to draft Ty Simpson in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft is still being talked about days later. That is especially the case for Georgia because they feel the Rams should be giving Stetson Bennett a chance rather than searching for a new quarterback to potentially replace him.

Fans and analysts alike have made their distaste with this draft choice very clear. Even Rams head coach Sean McVay gave the impression that he hated this pick.

But now it's fellow Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford (who is the Rams current starter) who appears to be upset with this pick as well.

Matthew Stafford appears just as upset with the Rams drafting Ty Simpson as Georgia fans are

In the above interview Simpson was asked if he has heard from Stafford since being drafted. Somewhat surprisingly he said that he had not.

And to make this even more shocking, Simpson said he did hear from Stafford's wife but not his new teammate.

A star quarterback like Stafford typically is expected to reach out to his team's new draftees. That is especially the case with offensive players they draft even if it's another quarterback. But Stafford's refusal to reach out to Simpson is very telling.

He might feel that the Rams are doing Bennett dirty by not giving him a chance to prove he can be his backup. Stafford might even believe that Bennett is plenty good enough to play in the NFL, so he may view Simpson as a wasted pick.

Stafford could also see the writing on the wall that the Rams are telling him it is about time for him to go. Sure he just won MVP, but he is aging and nearing retirement anyways.

Overall it is looking like Stafford is not a fan of this pick. This story is something that Georgia fans will want to watch closely because now it is do or die time for Bennett who is in the final year of his contract.

He needs to play his heart out to hopefully earn another contract with the Rams or find a new team next season who will give him a chance, but knowing Bennett he will do anything it takes to finally earn a chance in the NFL.
