Almost everything that could go right did go right for Georgia during their 63-3 week one victory over Tennessee State. This includes offensive coordinator Mike Bobo who has received a lot of negative attention over the last few years, but he called a perfect game against Tennessee State that helped validate why he was extended this offseason.
To be fair Georgia only played Tennessee State, so it's hard to draw too many conclusions from a game like this. They however deserve credit for handling their business like they were supposed to, and that includes Mike Bobo.
Mike Bobo got the most out of his entire offense
Bobo had Georgia's offense clicking for most of the game. There was a moment in the second quarter where the wheels fell off a bit, but for a majority of the game Georgia's offense couldn't be stopped.
Gunner Stockton and the starters scored a touchdown in all five possessions they played in before they sat for the rest of the game. Then Bobo started bringing the backups in, and other than two poor drives in the second quarter they played extremely well too.
Ryan Puglisi led the offense on two touchdown drives to start the second half before Ryan Montgomery and Hezekiah Millender each led a touchdown drive of their own in the fourth quarter. Georgia's running backs shined and were led by a big day from Nate Frazier and the Bulldogs' pass catchers showed a lot of promise across the board as well.
The entire offense overall played just about as good as anyone could've expected. They shouldn't pat themselves on the back too much since they only played Tennessee State, but the entire team, including Bobo, deserves credit for doing what they were supposed to do and dominate from the opening kickoff.
Mike Bobo perfectly managed Georgia's roster and play calls against Tennessee State
One thing people aren't talking about enough is how well Bobo managed his roster and play calls throughout the game. Everyone can recognize how good it is to rest their starters and give a lot of time to their backups during the game, but Bobo's management goes far beyond that.
Bobo didn't burn any of Georgia's offense throughout this game. He kept his play calling as vanilla as possible in an effort to not give away any changes they made to their offense over the offseason. The last thing they want to do is show Georgia's future opponents too much on film, so Bobo kept his play calls extremely basic to not give anything away.
Georgia in the past has struggled against weaker opponents because they are trying to keep things hidden for future games. That however didn't happen in their season opener this year. Georgia's offense was dominant from the beginning of the game, they got plenty of snaps for their backups, and they did all of that without having to showcase much of their playbook.
In a game against an FCS school like Tennessee State that is about as good as any Georgia fan could've asked for, and Bobo deserves credit for making it happen.
