One of the most exciting things every football season is watching Georgia play a new non-conference opponent. Sure it is fun watching them play (and usually beat) their rivals, but there's something special about lining up against a new out of conference team that they don't normally play.
Georgia has never been scared of playing anyone, but they unfortunately have been cancelling a lot of home-and-home series recently. Most recently they agreed with Florida State on Thursday to cancel their home-and-home series that was scheduled to begin next year.
That was one of just three series Georgia has recently cancelled, and that trend unfortunately doesn't look like it's going to end anytime soon.
Future cancellations could be coming soon for the Georgia football program
On top of Florida State, Georgia also cancelled their home-and-home series with Louisville that was going to begin this year. They also cancelled with NC State for a series that was going to begin in 2033 as well.
Losing all three of these matchups is disappointing because they are all teams that Georgia doesn't normally play. Thankfully they have a few other big name non-conference matchups on their future schedules, but at this point it doesn't seem like they will end up playing them either.
Georgia has two home-and-home series against Clemson which begin in 2029 and 2032. They also have a home-and-home with Ohio State on the books as well in 2030 and 2031 which might end up being the biggest non-conference games in Georgia football history. But these games more than likely will be cancelled as well all because the SEC added a ninth conference game.
Georgia will continue playing Georgia Tech every season, so that leaves just two games after factoring in the nine SEC matchups. When looking at it that way it makes sense to cancel these games so they don't have to play 11 Power Four opponents in one season, but that doesn't make it any less disappointing to see Georgia cancel all of these big matchups.
