Nate Frazier is back at Georgia for another year as the Bulldogs' starting running back, and he has a chance to do something special.
Considered by many as "Running Back University," the Georgia Bulldogs are widely known as a university built on tradition at the halfback position. Legends like Herschel Walker and Nick Chubb have made Athens a place that is nationally known to be one of the premier programs in America.
There is one feat though that no Bulldog has accomplished since Garrison Hearst in 1992. It has been over 30 years since a Georgia running back has led the team in single season rushing yards for three consecutive seasons, and looking to break that drought this year is Nate Frazier. The junior has led the team in rushing yards for two straight seasons, and he will look to do it again in 2026.
Nate Frazier in line for explosive 2026 season
Frazier came to Georgia in 2024 as a four-star recruit and saw playing time immediately. In his first career start against the Clemson Tigers in Georgia's season opener, Frazier led the charge with 11 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown run. He would end that freshman campaign with 671 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns, totals good enough to earn him SEC All-Freshman honors.
Frazier's success would continue into 2025 where he ran for 947 yards and six touchdowns. Frazier was only 53 yards away from becoming the first running back since D'Andre Swift in 2019 to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
In both his freshman and sophomore season Frazier averaged at least five yards per carry. To put that in perspective, if Georgia were to have given the ball to Frazier every snap on that average, they never would have seen a third down. Frazier also was one of three players to have over 100 carries in 2025, making his rushing yard totals that much more impressive.
Frazier also set his career high rushing yards against Mississippi State in 2025 where he ran for 181 yards on just 12 carries.
You could easily say that Nick Chubb or Todd Gurley could have accomplished this feat if it were not for injuries or Gurley's suspension in 2014, but that should not take away from how impressive this would be for Frazier. Frazier would join a short list of Herschel Walker and Garrison Hearst if he leads the team in rushing this season as the only running backs to do it three straight seasons at Georgia.
Considering who Frazier has shared the backfield with in Athens, that would be an impressive feat. Now that he will in all likelihood be named RB1 in 2026 with Chauncey Bowens and Dwight Phillips behind him, there is little standing in his way to make this happen.
