By now everyone knows that Nate Frazier suffered an ankle injury during Georgia's G-Day scrimmage on Saturday. Thankfully this injury was minor in nature as Kirby Smart confirmed there is nothing anyone should worry about.
While the injury is minor, Smart did confirm this is the same injury he suffered during Georgia's loss to Ole Miss in the College Football Playoff a few months ago. So the fact that he is still struggling with a nagging injury months later is why this injury is a bit concerning going forward.
Nate Frazier's lingering ankle injury is a major concern for Georgia
Frazier had plenty of time to heal up before G-Day. In fact, there were 107 days between Georgia's loss to Ole Miss and G-Day this past Saturday.
That should've been enough time for Frazier's ankle to heal up because his injury in the playoff was minor as well, and maybe he did heal up. But this injury sprung back up out of nowhere and is continuing to bother him all this time later.
So what happens if this injury continues to bother him all offseason? What happens if Frazier's ankle never fully recovers and this is an ongoing issue all season longer? Georgia has plenty of talented running backs outside of him, so they could make due if he has to be sidelined for a bit, but they are much better when he is playing.
Now that spring ball is done it would be wise for Frazier to sit back and rest for a few weeks. It's very apparent that he needs to let his ankle fully heal to ensure that it isn't an ongoing problem all year, so he should use this time while he has it.
Frazier is too valuable to Georgia this season, so if he needs to sit out for a few weeks during the summer months (even if he feels fine) then that would be the wise thing to do.
