Nation's No. 1 RB Kevin Hartsfield surprises Georgia during season opener

Georgia had over 100 recruits visiting campus for their season opening win against Tennessee State. Kevin Hartsfield, who is the No. 1 running back in the 2028 class, somehow slipped through the cracks and showed up as one of their biggest visitors to take in Georgia's first game of the season.

Hartsfield still has a ways to go in his recruitment, but it's been clear for the last few months that Georgia has as good of a chance as anyone to win his recruitment. That sentiment however increased after he chose to visit Athens during the first full weekend of college football.

Kevin Hartsfield visit to Georgia came out of nowhere

One would assume that Hartsfield's visit would be big news since he is the No. 1 running back in the 2028 class. Typically whenever a recruit that big breathes it's written about all over the internet, but for some reason this visit slipped through the cracks. Hartsfield and Georgia may have done that on purpose, but the second he was spotted at Sanford Stadium it became the big news it deserves to be.

Georgia is one of the top schools in Hartsfields's recruitment right now. In fact, they might be his No. 1 school right now. A few weeks ago he said it would be tough for him to say no to Georgia, and that obviously speaks loudly about Georgia's chances.

This visit though is a big deal for Georgia. Hartsfield more than likely will take visits to many other schools throughout the season but it was Georgia who got the first visit. That at the very least shows they are near the top of his recruitment, but in his case they may be leading right now.

Kemon Spell plays an important role in Kevin Hartsfield's recruitment

Georgia already has Kemon Spell, who is the No. 1 running back in the 2027 recruiting class, committed to them. Most of the time that means other top players at the same position won't want to come to Georgia anymore because they will want more playing time elsewhere, but Hartsfield doesn't seem to care about that.

Spell however hasn't said anything about Hartsfield. Maybe he would prefer for him to go somewhere else, but the vibe Spell has given off is that he wants to come to Georgia to win championships and not have a care in the world about any individual awards. If that's true, which it appears to be, there's a chance he would want Hartsfield to come to Georgia with him to make what could be the best one-two punch at running back in the country.

Spell is a year older than Hartsfield and he will come to Georgia next spring if he signs with the Bulldogs in December. He however could help convince Hartsfield to come to Georgia with him, and if they can pull that off then Georgia's running back room will be set for years to come.

Georgia still has a lot of work to do to land Hartsfield, but at this point it seems possible that they could land the No. 1 running back in the country in back-to-back recruiting classes.
