New Alabama commit may have used Georgia, Kirby Smart for clout

Why was Georgia even mentioned?

It is a known fact that recruits will use Georgia for attention. When they are ready to commit there are some recruits who will list Georgia as a finalist even though Kirby Smart never really made much of an effort to recruit them.

Why would they do that? Because having Georgia listed in all of their recruiting announcements draws eyeballs.

It's impossible to ever be 100 percent certain that a recruit is doing that, but 2028 quarterback Charles Scott may have just done that this week when he committed to Alabama.

New Alabama commit Charles Scott might be using Georgia for attention

Georgia already has a commitment in the 2028 recruiting class from a quarterback in five-star Jayden Wade. Almost no school ever recruits two quarterbacks in the same recruiting class, so that already makes it seem a bit strange that Georgia is listed in this announcement.

But Wade isn't just any recruit, he is the No. 1 quarterback in the country. So why would Georgia want a three-star like Scott when they have a player as talented as Wade already?

If Alabama wants to flex a quarterback commitment then they can do that with Elijah Haven. He is the No. 1 QB in the 2027 class who just chose Alabama over Georgia, and the fact that Smart doesn't have a 2027 quarterback commit yet shows that this was an actual loss for Georgia. But it's hard to imagine Georgia was pushing for Scott at all, but he still chose to list them as a finalist.

It is a known fact that Smart is recruiting other quarterbacks in the 2028 class even though Wade is committed. He is doing this as an insurance policy just in case Wade ever decommits. But if any of these quarterbacks decide they are ready to commit they will not be picking Georgia because Smart will stick with Wade no matter what.

As mentioned, there is no way to know for sure if Scott is using Georgia for attention, but that is the most likely scenario because there is no scenario that Georgia would want him right now.
