Rece Davis, Joel Klatt release updated college football rankings
Georgia football was on a bye this past week, but that didn't stop the college football world from having yet another wild weekend. The one team in front of Kirby Smart's squad in the AP Poll, Oregon, dominated a ranked Illinois team, so because of that Georgia stayed put at No. 2 in the updated AP Poll rankings.
The rest of the country however, including the SEC, saw a lot of movement in the rankings.
However, as Georgia fans we only truly care what people think about the Bulldogs. Many analysts post their weekly updated rankings, and some of them make absoultely no sense. But others, like the two below, can't really be debated by any UGA fan.
Rece Davis Rankings
ESPN's College GameDay host released his updated college football rankings on Monday, with Georgia coming in at No. 2.
Ranking | Team |
---|---|
1 | Oregon |
2 | Georgia |
3 | Ohio State |
4 | Texas |
5 | Miami (FL) |
6 | Penn State |
7 | Clemson |
8 | Tennessee |
9 | Iowa State |
10 | BYU |
Joel Klatt Rankings
Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt also released his updated college football rankings, and he agrees with the AP Poll and Davis by having the Bulldogs at No. 2.
In all honesty, there isn't any room for debate with either of these rankings from Georgia's perspective. Oregon now has three really good wins (Boise State, Ohio State and Illinois) on their resume, so until the Ducks lose a game Georgia likely will stay directly behind them.
There are a few teams who could have been ranked above Georgia that would make a little sense. Teams like Penn State and even Miami (FL) have a legit argument in my opinion, but UGA belongs above these two teams even though the Bulldogs have a loss.
Georgia is set to take on rival Florida this weekend in Jacksonville with a lot on the line. A trip to the SEC Championship game and College Football Playoff seeding are all huge factors in this game, because a loss to a team like Florida really hurts their chances just to make it into the title game and the CFP. A win also wouldn't help Georgia's resume much, but a loss would surely hurt it.
So even though there are bigger games remaining on Georgia's schedule, this is just as important as any other.
