Georgia football has received a lot of good news in the transfer portal since the offseason began. However, it has not been perfect as Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs have lost some key players to the portal as well. And arguably one of the most impactful losses was when linebacker Damon Wilson announced that he was entering the portal.

Wilson just finished his second season with Georgia where he recorded 22 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles. These are not the best stats in the world, but Wilson did this after receiving minimal playing time. That however was expected to change next season when Wilson was likely to become one of the leaders of this Georgia defense and receive a lot more playing time.

However, instead of that happening at Georgia next fall, it will be happening at a new school.

Upon entering the portal, Wilson immediately scheduled two visits to Missouri and Ohio State. Before these visits occurred, the Buckeyes were receiving predictions to land Wilson out of the portal, but Tuesday night saw Wilson announce his commitment to Missouri.

Damon Wilson is staying in the SEC

Georgia fans were hopeful that Smart would be able to convince Wilson to return to Georgia because he was one of the top players in the entire transfer portal. But if that wasn't going to happen, the thing Georgia fans did not want to see happen is Wilson staying in the SEC. Those nightmares unfortunately became a reality on Tuesday.

Thankfuly Georgia does not play Missouri next season, so the only way these teams could play is if the face each other in the SEC Championship game or College Football Playoff. There is a chance Georgia makes it into both, but in all honesty, it would be shocking to see Missoui play for an SEC title or make the CFP.

So at the end of the day, Georgia fans likely won't have to worry about having to play Wilson at Missouri, but losing him in general is not great and will be a tough loss to overcome.
