Two years ago everyone expected Texas to beocme an immediate factor in the SEC. While that has somewhat occurred, they have yet to climb the SEC mountain thanks to their 0-3 record against Georgia.
Texas fans have made it clear that their main focus should be finding a way to beat Georgia. If they can't do that then they may never win the SEC, so their program will be comparing themselves to Georgia until they finally beat them for the first time.
Unfortunately the latest statement from Steve Sarkisian was just another reminder that they may never find a way to beat Georgia.
"I would say probably for the first time I feel like we have the top-level talent across the board position by position on both sides of the ball," Sarkisian said via x.com. “But, yet, we also have the depth behind it across the board."
Steve Sarkisian gave Kirby Smart and the Georgia football program new bulletin board material
This statement sounds a little familiar. Maybe it's because Sarkisian says something like this before every season, but who knows.
Texas has had one of the best (if not the best) rosters in the country both years they have been in the SEC. That is why they were the preseason No. 1 team in the country just last season and ascended to the No. 1 ranking during the season two years ago. But they have yet to end the season at No. 1 and haven't even won the SEC either.
So what's different about this year? On paper there is nothing different about this Texas team because they are just as talented as they've always been. Sarkisian may think his team this year is different, but somewhere Kirby Smart is laughing because he knows that he will always have the upper hand against the Longhorns.
There is always a chance that next year will be different, but there is something objectively hilarious about a program constantly saying "next year will be our year" when more than likely it never will be.
