Georgia basketball intends on making a serious run at five-star forward AJ Williams. The Bulldogs are one of his top schools right now, but since he was in the 2028 recruiting class his recruitment wasn’t as urgent as other prospects in the 2027 class.
Williams however completely changed his recruitment as he is reclassifying to the 2027 class. Mike White and Georgia now have to completely revamp their recruiting efforts, but this stunning announcement could be exactly what they needed to improve their chances.
AJ Williams new timeline is perfect for Georgia
Instead of Williams recruitment lasting for the next year and a half, he decided to shorten that timeline by reclassifying to the 2027 class. So instead of waiting to ramp up their recruiting efforts, White and Georgia must go all out for him right now.
This update however might just be the best thing for Georgia.
Earlier this offseason Georgia received a $10 million donation. This donation will be used on NIL to help attract better players to Athens and prevent them from leaving Georgia and transferring to other schools. This donation however came after their 2026-27 roster was set, so Georgia hasn’t been able to use it yet.
The 2027 class is their first opportunity to start spending this money, and who better to use it on than Williams?
Williams has other big name schools after him like Duke and North Carolina, but both of those programs already have a few big name recruits that are after. They might not have enough space or money to go after Williams too, but Georgia does.
Georgia doesn’t have any players committed to their 2027 class right now. They also haven’t been linked with too many elite recruits yet either. So this means they have plenty of money to throw at Williams, and it would be wise for them to do so as soon as possible to continue to improve their position with him.
AJ Williams and Jarvis Hayes Jr. could team up and change Georgia’s trajectory
Williams is one of two elite players Georgia has a great chance to land in the 2027 class now. Four-star guard Jarvis Hayes Jr., who is the No. 24 player in the country, is trending towards Georgia right now.
Georgia has a big advantage in his recruitment because his father, Jarvis Hayes Sr., is a former SEC Player of the Year who played at Georgia in the early 2000s. He also is an assistant coach under White at Georgia right now too.
There’s a great chance he ends up committing to Georgia at some point, so imagine if Williams did too. He is the No. 5 player in the country, so Georgia would be adding two top 25 recruits in the same class.
That is something they have only been able to dream of, but those dreams could become reality. And if they both do come to Georgia the Bulldogs could start dreaming of making a deep NCAA Tournament run instead of just hoping to make it to the Big Dance.
