The Preseason Coaches Poll is out and Georgia came in as the No. 3 team in the country. They are also the top ranked team in the SEC and only trail Ohio State and Oregon who are ranked one and two respectively.
No one in Athens will complain about being the No. 3 team in the country. Everyone knows Georgia has the pieces to be the best team in the country, but after multiple years of failing in the CFP they need to prove it on the field before being crowned No. 1.
Superstitious Georgia fans however will love seeing UGA ranked No. 3. The last time Georgia opened the season ranked third in the Coaches Poll was 2022, and that year Georgia went 15-0 en route to their second national championship under Kirby Smart.

How much superstitions actually impact on field results is a completely different conversation. Some people live and die by them while others couldn’t care less, but it’s fun to dream a little isn’t it?
In 2022 Georgia had arguably their greatest season in program history. Not only did they go 12-0 in the regular season for the second year in a row, but they won the SEC after a five year hiatus. Then they went to the playoff and won an instant classic against Ohio State before blowing out TCU in the national championship game.
That 2022 season will be remembered forever, and it began with Georgia being ranked third in the preseason Coaches Poll.
Will Georgia be able to find similar success this season? The Bulldogs will likely be favored in all 12 regular season games and are the favorite to win the SEC too, but they’ve got a lot they need to prove in the playoff after losing their first game the last two years.
But if history means anything, Georgia could be in for a special season this year.
Preseason Coaches Poll confirms the media and Vegas’ confidence in Georgia
Georgia isn’t everyone’s pick to win the SEC this year. Paul Finebaum most notably just went on one of his rants explaining why he thinks Texas will take Georgia down this year. But the Coaches Poll confirmed what most of the media and Vegas think.
The media at SEC Media Days settled on Georgia as their pick to win the SEC. Vegas almost immediately followed that up by making Georgia their favorite as well after favoring Texas all offseason. And now it’s the coaches, why by the way know more about football than anyone else, who think Georgia is the top team in the SEC.
Once the games begin this fall none of this will actually matter, but it’s nice for Georgia to finally get some respect after being doubted entering the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Hopefully they are able to handle the pressure of being the favorite though and use the 2022 season as a blueprint for how to bring home another national championship this year.
