Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian discusses Georgia QB Carson Beck
Georgia QB Carson Beck is coming off a career performance in the Bulldogs’ 41-31 win over Mississippi State. The Georgia quarterback completed 36 of 48 passes for 459 yards and three touchdowns. This set career highs for him in both completed passes and passing yards.
The entire college football world has been rightfully talking about Beck after a performance like that, especially when he now has the fifth best odds to win the Heisman Trophy. This includes Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian who had a lot of positive things to share about Beck as well.
"Carson Beck I know really well”, Sarkisian said via dawgpost.com. “He was committed to us at Alabama and ultimately decommitted and went to Georgia. He's a great young man. His father has a military background. He’s a big strong kid, who can make all the throws. He's got a real presence in the pocket."
"I think they have a scheme that fits him”, Sarkisian continued. “They believe in the play-action pass, they believe in the double moves. They're going to take plenty of shots down the field. They utilize the tight end, they utilize the running backs. There's nothing from a throwing game that he really can't do. It's hard to confuse guys when they've played that much football. That's going to be our challenge. How do we disrupt him in the pocket? How can we create a little bit of hesitation in him from a coverage standpoint? Then we're going to have to play really well in tight coverage because he's going to make these throws. They have elite speed on the perimeter. They're built very similar like us, whether it's Arian Smith or Lovett. Those guys can all go. Now you have to guard them and they have an NFL quarterback throwing it to them."
Beck and the entire Georgia offense are going to have their work cut out for them against Texas. Yes they’ve been playing extremely well recently, but this Longhorns defense will be the best they’ve seen all season.
Texas comes in with the No. 1 ranked defense in the country. Statistically they haven’t faced a top 60 offense yet this season, but to be ranked No. 1 is still very impressive.
So Beck and the entire Georgia football team will have to be at their best if they want to win this game.
