Wednesday was the beginning of the early signing period in college football, and Georgia football had an amazing day. Nothing too crazy happened with players flipping and choosing to come to Kirby Smart and Georgia last second, but the Bulldogs did have have one player leave their class for another school which isn't that bad for today's day and age in recruiting.
However, entering Wednesday Georgia had the No. 1 recruiting class according to 247Sports. But after a wild day throughout the the rest of the country, they have unfortunately fallen behind two SEC teams.
Texas, Alabama pass Georgia in the recruiting rankings
While nothing too crazy happened with Georgia on Wednesday, big moves and flips did happen to many teams throughout the rest of the country. And two of those teams that saw the most in action were Texas and Alabama.
These teams had many players that weren't initially committed to their class flip at the last second and sign their National Letters of Intent (NLI) with their school. And this is exactly what needs to happen on signing day if a team wants to shoot up the recruiting rankings.
So while Georgia had the No. 1 class entering Wednesday, they have fallen beck two spots to No. 3 behind Texas and Alabama. While this isn't the news that anyone wants to see, Georgia isn't that far behind either school, so there really isn't much of a gap in the rankings between their class and these two classes ahead of theirs.
However, there is one player out there that Georgia is still after who would change all of this. Five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry will announce his commitment on Friday, and all signs so far point to him picking Georgia. And if that happens, Georgia will jump both Texas and Alabama in the recruiting rankings and take over the top spot once again.
Sure the Longhorns and Tide may make some other moves before then, but as it stands right now, Georgia will once again have the No. 1 recruiting ranking if Terry commits to Georgia on Friday.
