Former Georgia running back Cash Jones was not taken at the NFL Draft this year. That however was somewhat expected, but Georgia fans were still able to celebrate because he ended up being signed as an undrafted free agent by the Atlanta Falcons.

Most Georgia fans will feel confident that Jones can make the Falcons final roster now that he has a chance, but he has to overcome a massive hurdle that nearly every other player won't have to face.

That's right, the Falcons are forcing him to learn a brand new position if he wants to earn a spot on their team.

Falcons have forced Cash Jones to become a wide receiver

Jones has played running back his entire life. Playing that position is what led him to make it all the way to the NFL, but the Falcons believe he needs to switch to wide receiver if he is going to have a chance to make their roster.

The good news for Jones is that he has sort of been a wide receiver during his time in Athens as well. Sure he lined up as a running back, but most of his production came from catching passes out of the backfield. So this is a transition that he might be comfortable making.

Even if Georgia fans loved Jones they all likely knew he would never make it in the NFL as a running back. He was only a third down back at Georgia the last few years, and that is something that an NFL team doesn't need from an undersized player.

So this opportunity to prove himself as a wide receiver may just be his best chance at making it in the league. And the best part is that he gets to prove himself alongside fellow Georgia rookie Zachariah Branch.
