Georgia made the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, but ever since then the program has been on a downward spiral. Not only did they get blown out by Saint Louis in the first round of the tournament, but they have also lost six players to the Transfer Portal already this offseason as well.
For a program that is finding as much success as they have in decades, they now find themselves at the bottom of a massive hill with a long climb in front of them.
Mike White clearly has to address a lot of ares in the Transfer Portal if he’s going to get Georgia back to the Big Dance. But potentially the most important position to hit a home run with is at center.
Mike White must immediately address Georgia’s biggest Transfer Portal need
Of the six players already in the portal, two of them are centers. A lot of teams don’t have more than two or three centers on their team to begin with, so losing two guys already is a terrible position to be in.
Starting center Somto Cyril was one of the first Bulldogs to enter the portal. He was one of the biggest reasons why Georgia had the year that they did, and expectations would’ve been sky high next season if he returned. Cyril however will find himself on a really good team instead because he is being regarded as one of the top centers in the portal right now.
The second center Georgia lost was Jackson McVay. He was a true freshman this year who didn’t see the floor, but he could’ve been a huge piece for the future especially with Cyril’s departure.
The good news for Georgia is that White has shown he can get to the NCAA Tournament after losing a lot of players in the offseason as they lost a lot of talent this time last year and still found a way to have a really good season. Can White do it for a second year in a row though? Absolutely he can, but he must find at least one really good center in the portal if not two.
