The Florida State-Georgia football venue choice is as confusing as it gets

There were so many better options for where Georgia and Florida State could've played instead.

Georgia and Florida State had a home-and-home series scheduled to begin in a couple years. Unfortunately both programs let their fans down by canceling this series and scheduling one neutral site game instead.

The two sides have been debating about where this game should be played for a few weeks. A handful of cities were thrown out there as potential options, but none of them compared to how great these games would've been if they were played on their campuses.

The two programs however have finally landed on Nashville as the host city for this game in 2028, and fans of both programs are going to be furious because this decision makes absolutely no sense.

Georgia and Florida State announce a future matchup in Nashville

Many fans have their issues with this game moving to neutral site in general. Georgia and Florida State are home to two of the most electric atmospheres in the country, and combing their atmospheres with how historic both programs are makes it easy to see how anticipated these two games would've been.

Georgia and Florida State opted to change their plans and play one neutral site game instead likely so both programs can make a lot of money. Both programs getting more money is a good thing that no one can deny, but is it worth it to give up home games? Most fans would say no.

But whose idea was it to take this game to Nashville which as a reminder is in Tennessee, and last time I looked at a map neither school resides in that state.

What about Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Miami and Jacksonville? Those are four locations with an NFL stadium that is at least in Georgia or Florida. But Nashville? Are we serious right now?

To put into perspective how ridiculous this is, Georgia and Florida State's campuses are 285 miles apart. Georgia's campus to Nashville is 310 miles while Florida State is a whopping 491 miles away. So instead of playing in each other's stadiums they decided to play this game at a location that is further away from both schools than the home-and-home series would've been.

How does that make any sense?

Neutral site games are the new norm for the Georgia football program

It seems like the average college football fan no longer matters to the decision makers in college athletics. Without the fans college football wouldn't be able to function like it does today, but for some reason decisions continue being made that don't take into account for what the fans want.

Why would fans want to travel to Nashville for one game when they could've experienced one game at home and a cool road environment that is a shorter trip? This is making the fan's experience far worse than it would've been, and it's shame that is happening so both programs can collect a check.

This isn't the first time Georgia canceled a home-and-home series either. They already canceled on NC State, Louisville and are in discussions with Clemson to cancel their two series as well. On top of that, Georgia and Florida won't be able to play in Jacksonville the next two years, but instead of giving each team one home game for the first time in decades against their bitter rival they just found new neutral sites instead.

The bad news is that this trend of more neutral site games likely isn't going to end anytime soon, and unfortunately for Georgia fans their team is the program doing it the most.
