Georgia football and Kirby Smart are making a lot of great moves as the 2025 recruiting cycle comes to an end. The Bulldogs already have one of the top recruiting classes in the country, and with many more recruits and flip candidates still out there the expectation is that Georgia will finish the cycle with one of the best classes in the country once again.

But even with all the good that Smart and his staff have done on the recruiting trail recently, they haven't been perfect. And the most recent example of that is the latest decommit from Georgia’s recruiting class.

Shamari Earls decommits from Georgia

According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, four-star corner Shamari Earls has flipped his commitment from Georgia to Michigan.

Earls is one of the top players in the country, coming in at No. 87 overall on the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 11 corner and No. 2 player from Virginia.

While this news is very unfortunate, it isn’t all that surprising. About a week ago, rumors began swirling that a flip from Georgia to Michigan was possible for Earls. Then over the course of the next few days, three crystal ball predictions were logged on 247Sports for Earls to flip to Michigan. So the writing was clearly on the wall, and that writing became official Friday night.

However, there is no need for Georgia to panic. There will never be one recruit that will make or break a class on their own, so UGA is more than capable of finishing the cycle off with a great class.

Even after the decommittment from Earls, Georgia still has the No. 3 recruiting class in the country on 247Sports. Sure there is more work they need to do now if they want to move up in those rankings, but Smart and his staff have plenty of targets and time to be able to do just that.
