Georgia football plays Vanderbilt week five in Athens, and Vegas oddsmakers are predicting a blowout victory for UGA. According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Georgia would be favored by a whopping 18.5 points against Vanderbilt.
The talent discrepancy between the top and bottom of the SEC is rather large, but the bottom feeders in the league are capable of putting up a good fight against the top dogs. Vegas however doesn’t think Vandy stands much of a chance when they roll into Athens this season.
Vegas predicts blowout win for Georgia over Jared Curtis, Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt has been one of the surprise teams in the SEC the last few years, that's why 18.5 points in Georgia's favor may seem like a lot. Vegas however is very high on this Georgia team and think Vanderbilt will struggle to replace all of the talent they lost that helped lead them to two great seasons the last two years.
It will be especially difficult for them to replace former quarterback Diego Pavia who was a Heisman Trophy finalist last year. One option for Vandy at quarterback is former five-star Jared Curtis who Georgia is extremely familiar with.
Curtis was committed to Georgia not once, but twice. He decommitted from Georgia once before committing to them a second time last summer. He remained committed to Georgia for close to six months, but as the 2026 recruiting cycle came to an end he flipped and signed with Vanderbilt.
If Curtis wins the starting job at Vanderbilt he will make just his second career SEC start at Georgia, and that could be a recipe for disaster for the true freshman.
Georgia's opportunity for revenge against Jared Curtis could help future recruiting efforts
A big victory over Curtis and Vanderbilt could go a long way to help Georgia's future recruiting efforts. Georgia loves to recruit many of the top recruits in the country every year, and they thankfully are able to earn commitments from a handful of them. Curtis was one of those players until he flipped to Vandy, but if Georgia can beat him as bad as Vegas thinks it could make future recruits think twice about decommitting from Georgia.
One reason why Curtis and other recruits ditch Georgia is because they get larger NIL offers from other schools. Kirby Smart has made it clear that he will never overpay for a high school recruit, so those larger offers from other schools will likely continue. Smart is adamant though that recruits shouldn't choose a school strictly for money and instead should focus more on who can develop them the best.
A big win for Georgia over Curtis would prove to future recruits that if they actually care about winning more than anything else then Georgia is one of the best schools for them to play at.
A win over Vanderbilt and Curtis would also feel good for many other reasons. Revenge against Curtis would feel great, but beating a solid Vanderbilt team would help keep Georgia in the race for the SEC Championship. This matchup is also Georgia's homecoming game this year, and winning during homecoming is a special feeling too.
Georgia is the favorite to win the SEC this season, but Vanderbilt is a team that could surprise them at home. Vegas however thinks Georgia has a chance to blow them out, and that would feel really good after how Curtis ended his recruitment last year.
