The Week 3 AP Poll is out and Georgia stayed put at No. 2 for the second week in a row after beating Western Kentucky 70-20. Former No. 1 Ohio State lost to Texas Saturday night so there was a chance Georgia could've moved up to No. 1, but the AP Poll voters decided Texas deserved that spot since they were the team that beat the Buckeyes.
At the end of the day it doesn't matter if Georgia is No. 1 or No. 2 right now, but fans should thank Texas, Ohio State and the AP voters for giving the Bulldogs a little extra motivation.
Georgia finds new motivation thanks to the Week 3 AP Poll
More often than not when the No. 1 team loses the No. 2 team will move up and take their spot atop the rankings. Since Texas was already ranked No. 4 though it was pretty easy for them to have the Longhorns jump Georgia and take over the top spot.
Some fans and members of the team however might feel Georgia deserved the top spot over Texas. Sure the Longhorns have the better win, but Georgia won their two games by 50 and 60 points. Even though Georgia hasn't played anyone yet they handled their business how they were supposed to which they deserve credit for, and some people might argue that they deserve to be No. 1 for that reason.
In reality the AP voters made the decision that makes the most sense. Texas has proven far more than Georgia has by beating Ohio State, so for now they deserve to be No. 1 more than Georgia does. Georgia however could use this as motivation, so they should thank Texas, Ohio State and the AP Poll voters for creating this new source of motivation.
Georgia has plenty of oppotunities to prove they deserve to be No. 1
Georgia may or may not deserve to be ranked No. 1 right now, but with time they will have opportunities to prove why they deserve to sit atop the AP Poll.
Georgia begins SEC play this week where they will hit the road for the first time this season and travel to Arkansas. That still isn't much of an opportunity to show how good they are like Texas did against Ohio State, but starting in week four Georgia will face some tough competition.
No. 24 Oklahoma comes to Athens in week four which is followed up with a road game at No. 10 Alabama two week later. Three games after that they travel to No. 8 Ole Miss while also having No. 20 Missouri on their schedule towards the end of the season as well.
If Georgia can run the table they will show why they deerve to be ranked No. 1. Texas ultimately will probably have to lose before Georgia ever passes them, but if both teams keep winning then Georgia will get their shot at them in the SEC Championship game.
Texas still has to play six currently ranked teams this season in Tennessee, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU and Texas A&M and it feels next to impossible that they will all of those games. As long as Georgia keeps winning though then they'll eventually be ranked No. 1.
