Georgia football has a long offseason ahead of them after their season was cut short by Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff. While there were a lot of positive things to take away from this season, the team clearly was not as strong as year's past which is frustrating for Georgia fans.
So what does Kirby Smart and his staff need to improve the most before next season? The easy answer is everything, but there are a few positions that need a lot of work if Georgia wants to compete for a National Championship again next year.
1. Wide Receiver
The obviouis position Georgia needs the most help with is wide receiver after they lead the nation in drops this season. Thankfully Smart and his staff have already addressed this position as they have an elite group of receivers joining the program as freshman, which includes five-star Talyn Taylor.
The Bulldogs have also been looking to add a receiver from the portal as well, with USC transfer Zachariah Branch as the top target as of today. Branch and his brother have yet to make a decision, but the Bulldogs are one of the few teams they have shown interest in so far.
2. Offensive Line
Georgia also needs to improve their offensive line a lot this offseason. Whether that be with finding new players in the portal or working on the development of those already on the team, the offensive line was not good enough this season.
A lot of their issues may have had to do with the fact that they suffered countless injuries this season, but Georgia's loss to Notre Dame on Thursday showed how much work needs to be done with this group.
3. Quarterback
Last but not least is quarterback, which obviously has a huge question mark surrounding it after Carson Beck declared for the NFL Draft. Backup Gunner Stockton has shown that he is a great option at QB as he played very well both in the CFP and the second half of the SEC Championship game, but even he needs to improve a lot by next season if he is going to be the starter.
Smart and his staff have also been targeting a lot of QBs in the portal as well, but they are yet to earn a commitment. It remains to be seen if they continue to be active in the portal for a quarterback or not, but it would not be a bad idea to bring in an experienced transfer at the position to increase the level of competition this offseason.
