What a magical campaign the 2026 season was for Georgia baseball. Sure they came up just short against Oklahoma at the College World Series, but getting to the semifinals of the CWS is no joke.
On top of that, they also won the SEC regular season and tournament championship as well. So even though the season didn't end how anyone was hoping, there are a lot of reasons that everyone should be proud of his group.
With the season now complete it is time to start looking ahead to the 2027 season. Georgia has proven they can compete at the highest level, and now no one will want to see this program take a step back next year. So going into the 2027 season, here are three realistic goals that the Georgia baseball program should strive for.
1. Beat all of their rivals
One of the most basic yet extremely important goals ever season is for Georgia to beat their rivals. While beating Auburn, Florida and Georgia Tech doesn't win Georgia any championships, it is the foundation for having a really good season.
This year Georgia beat Florida in three of the four games they played which included a monumental comeback in the semifinals of the SEC Tournament. The Bulldogs also took two of three games against Auburn which is when they clinched the regular season SEC Championship. Georgia did lose their only game against Georgia Tech this year, but overall this year was a great season against their rivals.
This is by far the least important goal for next season, but it is one that the team and fans will really care about.
2. Finish in the top 4 of the SEC
Georgia just won the regular season SEC Championship for the eleventh time in program history this year. Winning the SEC is one of the most difficult things to do in college baseball because the conference is so stacked every season, so it may not be realistic to expect to win it again.
But it is realistic to expect to finish towards the top of the standings, so a top four finish would be a good goal.
This would secure Georgia's place in the NCAA Tournament and would probably be good enough for top 16 seed as well. For a program that has immense expectations right now, this would go a long ways to having another good season next year.
3. Make the College World Series
Just like how it may be too much to expect to win the SEC next year, it is definitely too much to expect to win a National Championship as well. That doesn't mean it won't be a goal for this program (because it is), but it shouldn't be the expectation.
Getting back to the College World Series would be a more realistic expectation though.
Georgia got a taste of the CWS for the first time in 18 years this season, and it's safe to say that no one wants to wait that long to get back again. So they might as well get back next year to give themselves another chance to win it all.
The great thing about the NCAA Tournament is that Georgia doesn't have to be the best team in the country all season to get to the CWS. Just this year Troy made it to Omaha along with an Oklahoma team who lost their final four SEC series during the regular season along with going 0-1 in the SEC Tournament. Now that Oklahoma team is playing for a National Championship, so that shows that anything is possible.
Losing to Oklahoma on Wednesday was not fun, and those bad feelings won't be going away anytime soon. But Georgia is a program that is built for the long run, so no one should be surprised if Wes Johnson has his squad competing at the highest level again next season.
