Kirby Smart's attention is on the 2027 recruiting class right now, but arguably the most important recruit for Georgia is five-star quarterback Jayden Wade. He is a member of the 2028 class who has been committed to Georgia for a few months now, and ever since he committed to UGA he has been the nation's No. 1 quarterback.
This title is in jeopardy though as Wade just fell in the Rivals rankings for the second time in a row.
5-star Jayden Wade is inching closing to losing his status as the nation's No. 1 QB
The last time Rivals updated their rankings was at the end of March. In this update Wade tumbled down the recruiting rankings all the way to No. 31. He also was ranked the No. 3 QB in his recruiting class as well which is still true after Monday's update, but he did drop a couple spots to No. 33 in the country.
At the end of the day it really shouldn't matter to Georgia where he is ranked, but everyone still wants to see him hold onto the No. 1 ranking in the 2028 class. And according to 247Sports he still has that title as he is the No. 1 quarterback in the country and No. 2 overall player.
He does have some stiff competition for this title though as Christopher Vargas is ranked just three spots behind him.
Rivals however no longer views Wade as the No. 1 quarterback in the country, but 247Sports still does. This trend from Rivals though could be a sign of what's to come from 247Sports, and if they drop him as well then he no longer will have a claim for being the No. 1 quarterback in the country.
Jayden Wade is more important to Georgia than anyone realizes
Wade is the single most important recruit for Georgia right now. Smart is having a very difficult time finding a quarterback in the 2027 class, and all signs point to those struggles continuing. But as long as Wade remains committed to Georgia it really doesn't matter what happens in the 2027 class.
Smart still wants to add a quarterback in the 2027 class, but what happens if he doesn't? As long as the four current backups to Gunner Stockton stick with the program after this season then it won't really matter if Georgia doesn't add a QB in the 2027 class.
But what happens if Georgia doesn't find anyone in the 2027 class and one of these backups transfers this offseason? Then Smart can just dip his toes into the Transfer Portal and add a quarterback there. In this scenario Georgia could also be a prime destination for the best QBs in the country with Stockton's career being done, so that wouldn't be the worst scenario either.
Georgia being alright with not adding a 2027 quarterback all hinges on Wade remaining committed though. If he decommits and flips to another school then Georgia is in serious trouble in both the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes.
But as long as Wade remains committed to Georgia then it really isn't a big deal if Smart continues to struggle with that position in the 2027 class.
