Georgia was the least active SEC school in the Transfer Portal this offseason. In fact, they only added 15 transfers which is much less than everyone else in the conference.
Kirby Smart was able to get away with this because they have the fifth-most returning production in the country, but that didn't stop him from adding some really good players.
One of those players is Oklahoma transfer defensive back Gentry Williams. He had a really solid career with the Sooners, but he opted to make the move to Athens where he is desperately needed. That move clearly left Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables pretty upset because he sang his former players praises at SEC Media Days on Monday.

Georgia needs Gentry Williams to have a big season
Georgia is in desperate need for Williams to have a big season this year. The Bulldogs' defense uncharacteristically struggled last season for a multitude of reasons, but one of those reasons was because of the play in their secondary. Specifically it was the amount of big plays they gave up over the top.
Georgia's secondary could've gotten more help from their defensive front who struggled to get to the quarterback, but they still could've done much better themselves.
Williams joins an experienced secondary that will feature KJ Bolden and Ellis Robinson as the leaders of the group. He may not be able to pass either of them on the depth chart, but he will be needed in big moments all season long which includes when Georgia hosts his former team during week four of this season.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables is being a bit too friendly towards Georgia
The biggest home game of Georgia's season will come early in the year in 2026. Georgia kicks off their season with two easy home games and a trip to Arkansas before a massive showdown against Oklahoma in week four.
The Sooners have a big road matchup against Michigan in week two, but assuming they win that game this will be a top 10 matchup. This game will have a huge impact on the SEC Championship race, so Georgia will have to be ready for the Sooners' best shot.
Venables sounds a little nervous that Williams will be in Georgia's secondary battling his former team. He clearly thinks he is a great player, so he could be someone that has a big game against his former teammates.
Venables was also quoted singing Georgia's praises during SEC Media Days on Monday as well. He even went as far as to say that they are the "golden standard" in college football over the past few years and that their record at home under Kirby Smart is quite impressive.
Maybe Venables is just a really nice guy who is willing to dish out all of this praise. Or maybe he is trying to butter Georgia up so they don't take Oklahoma as seriously as they should.
There is no shot that Smart lets his team overlook Oklahoma, but all of this praise for Georgia seems a little strange coming from a rival head coach. Is something else at play here?
