The biggest news of the entire transfer portal season so far this year is easily former Georgia football quarterback Carson Beck deciding to withdraw from the NFL Draft and return to college for one more season. This news was amplified even more when he decided to enter the transfer portal and commit to Miami (FL).
But with how crazy college football recruiting is nowadays, a move like this maybe shouldn't have been all that surprising. But it still left a lot of people wondering how this happened and what the details of this commitment from Beck are. Thankfully Beck's agent Dan Everett (gross that college sports uses these terms now) shared some details.
"Miami is a terrific market and we are pumped for Carson to become a Cane," Everett said via cbssports.com. "As one of the premier faces of college football NIL, we expect his brand portfolio to continue expanding with premium and national brands. Carson will prioritize teammate inclusive partnerships that include charitable components."
NIL was a huge factor in Beck's decision
To likely no one's surprise, Beck's decision to transfer to Miami was heavily driven by NIL. In fact, that is the only thing that Beck's agent shared with CBS Sports. His decision wasn't fueled by a love for Miami or wanting a change, it was driven solely by wanting to make a lot of money.
And speaking of NIL, the amount of money Beck will be making with the Huricanes is insane. Multiple reports have stated that Beck will make upwards of $4 million at Miami for one season. This is potentially the largest annual NIL deal in college football history which will return more money for Beck than he would have likely made had he moved on to the NFL.
While this news was shocking for everyone, Georgia football fans will not miss Beck. In fact, UGA fans likely want to play Beck and Miami in the College Football Playoff next season, so hopefully that is exactly what happens.
