Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami last year partially because he wanted a fresh start. He also made that decision because Miami offered him an NIL deal that he just couldn't say no to.
Beck became one of the highest paid college football players in the NIL era when he went to Miami, but that decision may end up costing him millions of dollars in the long run.
Beck was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft. On Wednesday he finally signed his contract with the Cardinals for four years that is worth a total of $7.4 million. at Miami he reportedly made $4 million in one year, so it's clear that he is taking a massive pay cut, but that pay cut may not have happened had he stayed at Georgia.

Cardinals also placed DL Kaleb Proctor on IR and signed DL Coziah Izzard.
Carson Beck's pockets might be deeper if he chose to stay at Georgia
Beck would've made less than $4 million last season if he stayed at Georgia, everyone knows that. But he could've signed a much larger NFL contract had he stuck it out with Georgia.
At one point when he was at Georgia NFL Draft experts were mocking him to eventually be the No. 1 quarterback in the draft when he decided turn pro. Beck unfortunately didn't live up to those standards in 2024 when he was still with Georgia, but he could've worked his way back up to that level at UGA in 2025.
Instead he went to Miami where he became a third round pick, but Georgia already proved that they can make him look like a first round pick. So who's to say they couldn't do that again if he came back in 2025?
For reference, Fernando Mendoza was the No. 1 quarterback taken at this year's draft and his contract is worth over $50 million. Beck might've not been able to sign that big of a contract, but if he stayed at Georgia there's a world where he would've been drafted higher than he was and signed a bigger contract.

Kirby Smart has made it clear that he cares more about getting his players paid in the NFL instead of paying them in college. Yes he wants to pay his players well in college, but he cares more about preparing them for the NFL.
No program has produced more NFL talent than Georgia the last few years. A lot of those players have also signed massive contract extensions in the NFL as well. So instead of going to other schools where they maybe could've made more in college, they chose Georgia where they were developed into NFL superstars and are now cashing in.
Maybe Beck could've made more in the long run if he stayed at Georgia, but he has to live with his decision. And based on how well Gunner Stockton has played in his place, there likely aren't many Georgia fans wishing Beck was leading the team last year instead.
