Georgia's wide receiver room has a big question mark hanging over their head going into this season. The Bulldogs lost a lot of their top receivers from last year to the NFL, so now they have to hope that their younger guys are ready to step up in their place.
The hope is that someone will burst onto the scene, but former Georgia receiver Anthony Evans would be the perfect player to have in Athens right now. He spent his first two seasons with Georgia, but after finding limited success he transferred to Mississippi State in 2025 and had an amazing season that left Georgia wishing he never left

Anthony Evans is the one fomer Bulldog that Georgia needs most
Evans only recorded 13 receptions, 123 yards and one touchdown during his two seasons in Athens. So when he decided to leave no one was that upset to see him go. But he immediately became one of the top receivers in the country last season with Mississippi State.
He finished the 2025 season with 67 catches for 831 yards and four touchdowns. Evans now has his eyes on an even better season this year as he wants to set the Mississippi State single season receiving record, but Georgia wishes he was attempting that in Athens instead.
Georgia didn't really need Evans last year because of how great Zachariah Branch was. If Evans still played for Georgia he wouldn't have as big of a year as he did because Branch still would've been UGA's go to receiver, but he would be ready to be Georgia's No. 1 wide receiver this year though.
Georgia instead will have to watch him from afar, and if their receivers struggle they will really be wishing he never left Athens.
Who can step up for Georgia to make sure they don't miss Anthony Evans?
Talyn Taylor is the player that has the best chance to burst onto the scene for Georgia this year. He is a former five-star recruit who had a quiet freshman campaign last year, but with a season under his belt now and more opportunities in front of him he will have a chance to prove himself this year.
Georgia Tech transfer Isiah Canion is arguably the receiver at Georgia with the most success so far in his career. All of that success has occurred elsewhere, but he has been extremely impressive all offseason and should be a big piece for Georgia this season too.
If Georgia's receivers step up and have a great year then no one will miss Evans. But if they struggle and provide no help to Gunner Stockton then everyone will be wishing Evans was still in Athens. That will especially be the case if he is setting records at Mississippi State and setting the college football world on fire like he predicts.
Only time will tell how all of this pans out, but Georgia could really use a player like Evans on their roster to sure up their wide receiver room right now.
