Georgia football's fall camp is full steam ahead as the Bulldogs just wrapped up their first scrimmage last weekend. A few injuries updates however were provided on Tuesday that stemmed from this scrimmage. On top of that, a freshman running back has emerged as a serious contender to steal a lot of snaps while a new flip four-star target has surfaced for the Bulldogs.
So let's dive right in and cover these big news updates from Tuesday, beginning with the three injury updates.
Kirby Smart shares 3 injury updates
Georgia so far has survived fall camp without too many injuries to report, but that changed on Tuesday after Kirby Smart shared three injury updates with the media before practice. These updates were for running back Josh McCray (illness), wide receiver Thomas Blackshear (ankle) and offensive lineman Malachi Toliver (ankle).
Thankfully none of these injuries sounded too serious, so Georgia so far has been able to avoid any significant injury this season.
RB Chauncy Bowens is making a case for increase playing time
Georgia has a clear cut No. 1 running back in Nate Frazier this season, but what isn't known is who the next guy after Frazier will be. Many thought it would be transfer Josh McCray, but his illness has prevented him from earning that spot.
So the running back who has stepped up is redshirt freshman Chauncey Bowens, who some are saying is looking like an "SEC starter."
It remains to be seen how snaps will be handed out to the running back room this fall, but the emergence of Bowens shows that Georgia has a lot of reliable backs they can use this season.
New 4-star WR flip target
Four-star wide receiver Tyren Wortham committed to Michigan State over Georgia at the end of June, but that hasn't stopped the Bulldogs pursuit of him. A new report from Rivals surfaced this week indicating that Georgia and Auburn are two teams that are still recruiting him hard.
This is obviously a huge deal, but the magnitude of this report was amplified by the fact that an unnamed SEC school has reportedly already scheudled a fall visit with him. In the picutre attached to this post, Wortham was seen wearing Georgia gear, so it's easy to assume that Georgia is the team who will host Wortham for a game this fall.
This doesn't guarantee that UGA will be able to flip Wortham from Michigan State, but it does make it feel like a real possibility.
