Georgia football found themselves on the right end of a few pieces of recruiting news on Saturday. So let’s dive right in because the Bulldogs are showing a couple of their rivals who their boss is.
Georgia beats Tech for 4-star commitment
Georgia once again was able to earn a massive commitment as four-star defensive lineman Anthony Lonon officially committed to Georgia on Saturday. Lonon chose the Bulldogs over rival Georgia Tech, who was his only other finalist.
Lonon’s commitment gives Georgia 31 commits in their class which includes seven defensive linemen. On top of that, this commitment also helps Georgia stretch their lead over USC and the rest of the pack in the race for the No. 1 recruiting class in the country.
Georgia has put rival Florida on flip watch
Beating rivals on the recruiting trail is really fun, but stealing a commit from a rival is as good as it gets. And it appears Georgia is attempting to do that with four-star offensive tackle Tyler Chukuyem.
The Bulldogs have been in contact with the Florida commit for quite some time now, but Saturday marked the day Georgia finally offered the top 100 offensive tackle. There is still a lot of work for Georgia to do if they want to flip Chukuyem, but many recruiting experts believe the Bulldogs stand a good chance at pulling this flip off and stealing a Florida commit.
Football royalty visited Athens
Jon Gruden is one of the best minds in all of football, and on Friday he was seen watching Georgia’s second practice of fall camp. Gruden likely was in town only to have a good time and watch the Bulldogs go to work, but it’s cool to see a name as big as his take time out of his busy life just to watch Georgia practice.
Gruden likely would be allowed to visit any program in the country that he wanted, but he still chose to come visit Georgia. So this shows how respected of a program Georgia is for someone of Gruden’s stature to choose to visit Athens the second fall camp began.
