Georgia got a big win on Saturday against Western Kentucky, but they also might have made some moves with the No. 1 overall recruit in the country David Jacobs. While Georgia continues to push to flip him they are also gearing up for the start of SEC play this week.
The week three AP Poll came out on Sunday as well which may have been the biggest story of the day, and even though No. 1 Ohio State lost on Saturday Georgia still found themselves ranked No. 2 again this week.
Texas jumped Georgia for No. 1 ranking in AP Poll
Ohio State was the No. 1 team in the country before they fell to Texas on Saturday. Georgia was the No. 2 team in the country last week, but instead of sliding up to the top spot Texas jumped them instead.
Since the Longhorns were the team to beat Ohio State it makes sense that they passed Georgia. The Bulldogs however handled their business by winning their first two games of the season by 60 and 50 points.
Even if Georgia did what they were supposed to do against lesser competition, it still doesn’t compare to beating a team like Ohio State. Texas deserved to be ranked No. 1, but this may not be a bad thing for Georgia if they use it as extra motivation going forward.
Georgia may have momentum with 5-star Ohio State commit David Jacobs
If losing to Texas wasn’t bad enough Ohio State could be losing ground with five-star EDGE David Jacobs to Georgia. He is the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class who committed to Ohio State last December.
Jacobs is from the state of Georgia and had the Bulldogs in his final group when he announced his commitment, but he ultimately decided against staying close to home. He might be having second thoughts about that decision though because he was in Athens visiting Georgia during their matchup against Western Kentucky this weekend.
There isn’t any public indication that Georgia made up some ground in his recruitment this weekend, but they at least have the slimmest of chances at landing Jacobs and that’s better than most people thought even one week ago.
Previewing Georgia's SEC opener at Arkansas
Georgia begins SEC play this weekend with their first road trip of the year at Arkansas. The Razorbacks are a step up in competition compared to Tennessee State and Western Kentucky, but they may just be the worst team in the SEC this season.
Arkansas opened their season against North Alabama at home and won 31-14. That isn’t as convincing of a win that you’d expect from an SEC team. Then this past week they traveled to No. 20 Utah where they were blown out 43-10.
Georgia is favored by 24.5 points according to FanDuel Sportsbook. Based on how both teams have played so far this season Georgia could very easily cover this spread, but it’s their first road game of the year and their first matchup against a Power Four opponent so it’s just as likely that this game could be much closer than anyone expects too.
