Georgia is a perfect 4-0 heading into week five after blowing Oklahoma out 41-13. The AP Poll rewarded Georgia for this victory by closing the gap between Texas and Georgia for the No. 1 ranking.
Texas is still the No. 1 team in the country, but the AP Poll showed this weekend that they think highly of Georgia. They also now think highly of one of Georgia's future opponents as well who hasn't been relevant nationally in a long time.
Georgia closed the gap with Texas for AP Poll's No. 1 ranking
The new AP Poll came out on Sunday and Georgia stayed put at No. 2. They however picked up three more first place votes which now gives them six. Texas unsurprisingly remained at No. 1 even if Georgia had a good argument to pass them, but UGA did close the gap between them and Texas.
Last week Texas had a 126 point advantage over Georgia in the AP Poll, but this week their lead was cut down to 91. That is still a decent advantage, but overall the AP Poll was more impressed with Georgia's win over Oklahoma than they were of Texas' win over Tennessee.
Georgia may ultimately need Texas to lose before they can ever pass them and take over the No. 1 ranking. If that never happens though they could eventually get the chance to take it themselves by beating Texas in the SEC Championship game, if they both make it there.
Georgia vs Florida is quickly becoming the biggest game of the season
Florida hasn't been a noteworthy team nationally in quite some time. Sure Georgia and Florida have still played some close games over the past few years, but it's been a long time since this rivalry had any meaning outside of bragging rights. This year's game couldn't be more different.
Georgia and Florida play on Oct. 31 in Atlanta this season. Georgia has started their season 4-0 which was expected, but the Gators are 4-0 as well and ranked inside the top 10 after dismantling Ole Miss this past week.
Georgia now has Ole Miss, Alabama and Florida who are all top 10 teams on their schedule this season. They also play each of these teams within a four game span as well. If Florida keeps winning though they would be the biggest game out of these three simply because they are Georgia's rival and haven't been relevant on the national scene in many years.
Previewing Georgia's upcoming matchup vs Vanderbilt
Georgia enters their Week 5 matchup against Vanderbilt with a perfect 4-0 record after beating Oklahoma by 28 points. The Bulldogs are the No. 2 team in the country in the latest AP Poll and have won all four of their games this season by at least 28 points.
Vanderbilt is unranked entering this week's matchup after dropping their first game of the season on Saturday at Auburn. The Commodores haven't looked that great all season though even if they are 3-1. They failed to convincingly beat Austin Peay and Delaware in their first two games before needing a miracle final play just to beat NC State at home in Week 3.
Georgia is favored by 24.5 points over Vanderbilt according to DraftKings Sportsbook. This spread feels like it could be higher since Georgia hasn't won a game by less than 28 points yet this season, but Vegas still thinks Georgia will win comfortably.
The biggest story entering this game is former Georgia quarterback commit Jared Curtis likely getting the start for the Commodores. The former five-star recruit was committed to Georgia throughout most of last year, but at the end of the recruiting cycle he flipped to Vanderbilt. This will be the third start of his career and Vegas is predicting that Georgia will get the revenge they've been waiting for ever since he left the program.
