Georgia football had a relatively quiet day on the recruiting trail during national signing day on Wednesday. Every player committed to Georgia's class entering the day signed with Georgia except for one who flipped to Florida State at the last second. But other than that, no real surprise happened to Kirby Smart and Georgia which isn't the worst thing in the world.
However, some big news happened overnight as Georgia fans slept their way into Thursday as Smart and his staff have officially flipped a defensive back and added him to their recruiting class, according to On3.
3-star DB Daniel Okonkwo
Daniel Okonkwo is a three-star defensive back from Powder Springs, GA. Okonkwo comes in as the No. 748 overall player in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings. He also is the No. 64 ranked safety as well as the No. 88 player from Georgia.
Okonkwo had been committed to Northern Illinois since the end of October, but Smart and his staff were able to swoop in and change that in a hurry at the end of the cycle.
Sure Okonkwo isn't the highest ranked recruit in Georgia's 2025 recruiting class, but he does fill a big hole from a player Georgia lost earlier this cycle. Five-star Shamari Earls decided to flip to Michigan in early November, so it immediately became clear that Georgia needed to find a new recruit to add to their recruiting class to take his place. And while Okonkwo isn't as talented of a player as Earls is, he is still a huge addition to the class this late in the cycle.
It will be interesting to see if Smart and his staff have any other big moves up their sleeves. One name to keep an eye on is five-star Justus Terry who still appears to be trending towards Georgia, but we will all find out where he decides to commit on Friday.
But for now, Georgia can celebrate this signing day flip as they look forward to hopefully getting some more big news over the next couple of days.
