Week 4 is officially here and the slate of games is out of control. That is especially the case for Georgia fans and fans of the SEC as this week will start to shape what the SEC Championship race will look like this season.
Georgia and Oklahoma play at 3:30 pm EST on Saturday, but there are a handful of impactful games before, after and even during their game that should grab the attention of fans at home.
All game times are listed in Eastern Standard Time.
Early Afternoon Slate
No. 1 Texas @ No. 14 Tennessee - Noon on ABC
Texas and Tennesee have the biggest game of the day in the country. In fact, it is the only ranked matchup or game of any relevance in the early afternoon slate.
Texas has more than proven themselves this season already after beating Ohio State two weeks ago, but Tennessee is yet to play anyone that strong. This is an opportunity for Texas to show once again why they are the No. 1 team in the country or for Tennessee to finally be a factor in the SEC Championship race.
Georgia fans watching this game might want to cheer for Tennessee because a Vols win would likely promote Georgia to the No. 1 ranking next week if they handle their business against Oklahoma.
Illinois @ No. 7 Ohio State - Noon on FOX
The only other game potentially worth watching is Ohio State's matchup with Illinois. This likely will be a blowout win for the Buckeyes, but since there's a chance Georgia could face Ohio State in the playoff later this year it isn't a bad idea to watch them.
You never know though, if Ohio State were to lose that would be their second loss and make reaching the playoff in general difficult to accomplish.
Late Afternoon Slate
Oklahoma @ No. 2 Georgia - 3:30 on ESPN
The one game every Georgia fan obviously cares most about this week is their showdown at home against Oklahoma. The Sooners are Georgia's toughest test so far this season, but the Bulldogs are still favored by nearly two touchdowns.
Oklahoma has already suffered one loss this season on the road to Michigan. That doesn't hurt their chances in the SEC, but a loss in this game would nearly end the chances of making it to the College Football Playoff. They also face No. 1 Texas in their next game in two weeks, so if they were to lose both games their season would essentially be over.
Georgia on the other hand has a lot to prove since they haven't played anyone with a pulse yet this season. A comfortable win against Oklahoma however would help them start to show just how good they can be this year.
No. 4 Ole Miss @ No. 21 Florida - 3:30 on ABC
There won't be much time to flip the channel while Georgia is playing, but on commercial breaks there is another ranked matchup going on in the SEC. Ole Miss has the best resume in the conference so far this season, and they have a chance for another ranked win at Florida.
The Rebels already have ranked wins over Louisville and LSU. They have proven how good they are, but the same can't be said for Florida yet. The Gators just won at Auburn last week though and a win over Ole Miss would cement themselves as true contenders in the SEC.
Florida is favored by a couple points to win this game, so this is one Georgia fans should be watching as closely as possible.
No. 17 Iowa @ No. 18 Michigan - 3:30 on CBS
There is one other ranked matchup in college football during the late afternoon slate of games. Undefeated Iowa heads to Michigan to take on a confusing Wolverines team that barely beat Western Michigan and struggled in the first half against UTEP, but they also have a marquee win over Oklahoma.
There might not be much time to watch this game though, so watching the highlights after Georgia's game is done might be the way to go.
Evening Slate
No. 23 Texas A&M @ No. 10 LSU - 7:30 on ABC
Texas and Tennessee have the biggest game in the SEC this week, but this matchup might have the most at stake. Both Texas A&M and LSU are 0-1 in the SEC after dropping games last week, so the loser of this game will see their chances of making it to the SEC Championship game drop close to zero.
The loser will also more than likely have to run the table to make it to the College Football Playoff, and with how stacked the SEC is that will not be easy.
Georgia doesn't play either team this season, but the loser of this game can probably be crossed off their list of potential SEC Championship game opponents.
No. 20 Oregon @ No. 12 USC - 7:30 on NBC
Oregon was one of the favorites to win the national championship this season, then they had to start playing games which resulted in them barely surviving an upset bid from Boise State at home before losing to Oklahoma State. One more loss for the Ducks and Oregon could see their national championship goals evaporate.
USC on the other hand has cruised to a 3-0 start. They haven't played anyone that great though, so this is there chance to finally show if they are legit contenders to make the playoff for the first time ever (which is pretty surprising).
No. 19 Missouri @ No. 24 Mississippi State - 7:45 on SEC Network
Missouri and Mississippi State are two undefeated teams who haven't bbeatenat any truly quality opponents yet this season. That makes it hard to take away too many conclusions about this game, but the winner of this matchup will stay alive in the race for the SEC.
The loser won't be knocked out of the SEC Championship race and they'll still have a shot to make the CFP, but a loss to an unproven team makes both of those goals feel nearly impossible for whoever loses.
