Georgia and Texas are ready to battle at the College World Series. The Bulldogs and Longhorns have known they were going to play each other for about a week now, so that has given everyone ample time to analyze this game and predict who will come out on top.
Vegas has believed Texas will win this game from the moment they released their opening odds. In fact, those odds didn't even move an inch throughout the past few days. That however quickly changed late Friday night and into Saturday morning with first pitch just a few hours away.
Updated Vegas odds give Georgia a better chance to beat Texas at the CWS
According to FanDuel Sportsook, Texas was a -138 betting favorite when their odds for Saturday's matchup officially opened. Georgia on the other hand was +108 to beat Texas. These odds were pretty close, but it showed that Vegas was confident Texas would beat Georgia.
Game odds refresh periodically and are subject to change.
Fast forward to Saturday morning and Texas has fallen to -130 while Georgia's odds to win slightly improved to +102. So even though Vegas still favors Texas, they are giving Georgia a better chance to win now more than ever before.
Georgia's matchup against Texas is the most important game of their season. A victory would mean Georgia only needs two more wins to advance to the National Championship series while a loss would send them tumbling to the loser's bracket. If that were to happen Georgia would need to win four straight games to get to the National Championship series, and that is a reality no one wants to face.
So while Vegas still thinks Texas will win, they are a little more confident in Georgia and that is always nice to see.
Georgia must overcome the odds again to win a National Championship
Georgia having to overcome the odds this postseason is nothing new to them. In fact, they have been doubted all season long and have continued to prove everyone wrong.
No one thought Georgia would win the SEC at the start of the season, but what did they do? They went out and won the regular season title by 3.5 games and won the SEC Tournament as well.
Entering the NCAA Tournament they were heavily favored to win the Athens Regional, but they were not big favorites in their Super Regional against Mississippi State. In fact, Georgia was the favorite with the worst odds to advance out of all eight Super Regionals.
Once again they proved Vegas wrong by sweeping Mississippi State last weekend.
Now Georgia is once again being doubted at the College World Series, but that is nothing new to them. Head coach Wes Johnson said he doesn't care what the odds say, but he said that earlier this week when they were one of the favorites to win it all. Vegas still gives Georgia the second-best odds to win the College World Series, but they don't think they will get past Texas on Saturday, so maybe Johnson should use that to motivate his team.
First pitch between Geoergia and Texas will air on ESPN on Saturday, June 13 at 8:00 pm EST.
