There aren’t many rivalries bigger in college football than the one that features Georgia and Florida. The two programs go way back having faced each other 103 times, and many of those meetings had massive implications both in the SEC and on a national level.
These two programs also dominated the SEC East for years as well, so the hatred between the two fanbases is very real.
This rivalry however is something that new head coach Jon Sumrall must not be familiar with because he just said Georgia is his third biggest rival.
Now that is something Georgia will make him regret and Florida fans will beg he never said.

Jon Sumrall offers ridiculous opinion on Florida’s biggest rival
Proclaiming Florida State and Miami as the Gators’ biggest rivals does make a little sense for the new head coach to say. They are his in-state rivals who he will compete with the most on the recruiting trail, so viewing them as his biggest rival makes sense from that front.
But Georgia is in the SEC. They are a team they will play every season that has legit championship-level ramifications each year. So to act like they aren’t Florida’s biggest rival is a bit ridiculous.
On top of that, the history between Georgia and Florida is much deeper than that with the Gators’ in-state foes. Georgia and Florida will play for the 104th time in their history this season. Their matchup with Florida State at the end of the season will only be their 69th, and they don’t even play Miami this year who they’ve only faced 58 times.
Sumrall can say whatever he wants, but the facts speak for themselves. Unfortunately for Sumrall though this is an opinion Georgia will make sure he regrets by the time his stint in Gainesville is done.
Jon Sumrall just did Georgia a gigantic favor
Florida fans have been running their mouths all offseason. That is a strange thing to do considering Georgia has won five straight matchups, but for some reason they are extremely confident Sumrall will be the guy to finally bring their program back.
But how can they be confident in him if he doesn’t even view Georgia as his biggest rival? Most Florida fans think Georgia is their biggest rival, but now they have to live in a world where their head coach doesn’t care as much as they do.
Not only does Sumrall not hate Georgia as much as Gators’ fans do, but he doesn’t have as much hatred as Kirby Smart and his team do. That certainly will not do them any favors knowing Georgia will be more energized for their meeting than he will.
But why would Sumrall say this publicly in the first place? He has to know Smart will be watching and ready to use anything he says to help fuel his team this year, so maybe giving Smart this soundbite wasn’t the wisest decision in the world.
Maybe this statement from Sumrall shouldn’t be that surprising. He is the one who already said how easy recruiting is, so maybe he just doesn’t ever have a clue what he’s talking about.
But Smart will welcome these ridiculous statements with open arms. He’s embarrassed every Florida coach he’s matched up against so far in his career, and Sumrall more than likely won’t be any different.
