Stetson Bennett is giving Rams a glimpse of the post-Stafford era

Stetson Bennett knows that the job is still Matthew Stafford's, but he is really making the case to be his replacement when the time comes.

Stetson Bennett has been in the NFL for two seasons and is getting ready to head into his third with the Los Angeles Rams after being drafted in the fourth round with the No. 128 pick in 2023. In his first two seasons, Bennett struggled and even stepped away from football for a bit to focus on his mental health, but now he is back for year three and looking better than ever.

The Stetson Bennett that he is showing now is the guy Georgia fans always knew he could be in the NFL. In his first NFL preseason game this year against the Dallas Cowboys, Bennett started the game and went 16-for-24 with 188 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, an interception, and a passer rating of 100.7, which is great.

Bennett isn't going to be the starting quarterback for the Rams this season as long as starter and another former Bulldog, Matthew Stafford, is healthy enough to be on the field, but he is making the case to be his replacement when the time comes. Many questioned whether Bennett would be able to step up and be the guy in L.A. when Stafford leaves, but now he is proving all those doubters wrong.

Bennett's performance in training camp has been the highlight of the team, with both coaches and teammates raving about his progress. The former Bulldog has shown off his arm strength and better ability at ready plays and defenses, which he struggled heavily with before.

With the way Bennett is now performing, he is showing the Rams fan base what they can expect from him when Stafford either re-signs or leaves. The Rams look to be in pretty good hands now with Bennett's improvement.

Now, Bennett does have to show he can do all of this in a regular-season NFL game because that is another beast to slay. He is still facing starters for a small bit of time during the preseason, but if he can perform like this in the regular season too, he has the starting position wrapped up nicely with a bow on top for the post-Stafford era.
