Georgia just lost a wide receiver transfer to Florida, but news with other wide receivers makes this news not impact Georgia all that much.

Georgia football and Kirby Smart have finally been making some serious waves in the transfer portal the last couple days. However, recruiting momentum never lasts forever, and it appears UGA has hit a road bump with one of the wide receivers they were after in the transfer portal.

Georgia has been in a battle with Florida for UCLA transfer wide receiver J. Michael Sturdivant, who is coming off a season with the Bruins where he recorded 22 receptions for 315 yards and two touchdowns. These stats aren't that impressive, but factoring in the fact Sturdivant only played in seven games shows that these stats are actually quite impressive.

UGA was expected to host Sturdivant on a visit on Friday, but that visit appears to be cancelled as Sturdivant announced his commitment to Florida late Thursday night.

Georgia likely lost interest in Sturdivant

While it is never fun to lose any recruitment, especially to Florida, missing on Sturdivant seemed like the most likely outcome based on recent events with other targets.

On Thursday, Georgia received multiple official predictions to land the No. 10 overall player in the portal, Kentucky wide receiver Dane Key. On top of that, Georgia is also the first team to announce that they will be hosting an elite duo of transfers from USC. One of those transfers, wide receiver Zachariah Branch, is the No. 3 player in the country who will be visiting with his brother Zion Branch who is the No. 12 safety in the portal.

So those two developments make it quite clear why Sturdivant no longer has interest in Georgia. And from Georgia's perspective, that is completely okay. Both Key and the Branch brothers are a higher priority than Sturdivant, so missing on him is not an issue considering the positive momentum Georgia has with these other players.

Who knows if Georgia will win the sweepstakes for the Branch brothers, but as long as they do win with Key then missing on Sturdivant will not matter at all.
